Met.-Detroit Jazz Wrkshp. 6 & 7 piece Combo Charts

Over the years, I have arranged numerous 6-piece (and in some cases, 7-piece) charts for various ensembles to play and perform. They all celebrate different jazz composers and are written in varying degrees of difficulty.

Arrangements by featured composers/groups are: Sonny Rollins, Lee Morgan, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Theloniuous Monk, Cannonball Adderly, Miles Davis, Horace Silver, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Tom Harrell, Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Benny Goodman, and McCoy Tyner. Composers to be featured soon are: Bill Evans, Duke Pearson, Andrew Hill, and Kenny Garrett.

All of these charts contain the following parts:

Score

Horn I in Eb for alto sax

Horn II in Bb for trumpet or clarinet

Horn II in Eb for alto sax

Horn II in Bb for tenor sax (8va)

Horn III in Bass Clef for trombone or euphonium

Horn III in Bb for tenor sax (8va)

Charts are graded between 1 and 5:

1: Beginner- Medium tempos, limited syncopation, with reduced range in horns. Only one or a couple solo chords. Good for middle school or beginning high school student combos.

2: Beginner / Intermediate- Varying tempos and styles with moderate horn ranges. Easy solo chord changes. Ideal for high school or beginning college groups.

3: Intermediate- These arrangements start to feature more instrumental solis and feel changes within the chart. The solo changes are longer in form and slightly more complex. These are good performance tunes for more experienced high school groups, mid-level college and pro groups.

4: Intermediate / Advanced- These charts are designed to challenge high school and college groups. More is expected out of the soloists, are usually longer charts, and built over more complex chord changes. Tempos and time signatures may be more extreme.

5: Advanced- These arrangements are the most challenging in the catalog. They require not only good instrumentalists to perform, but good jazz chops. These are among the most difficult, but also most rewarding charts for groups that can play them. Talented college and pro bands are the best suited groups for these.
